Sarah ramsey running with dog

On Friday 6th December 2019 we held a Pet First Aid evening for clients and members of the local community. We had just under 50 attendees who enjoyed a PowerPoint presentation about common first aid procedures including:

  • How to measure respiration and heart rate,
  • How to perform CPR,
  • How to deal with cuts, burns and poisonings,
  • What to do when your pet has an allergic reaction

We then split everyone into small groups to demonstrate some of the things we talked about and show them how to do some basic bandaging on some of the staff pets. People left with a small complimentary first aid kit to keep in their cars or take out on a dog walk.

We just asked for a minimum £5 donation to CRY and raised just over £250 in memory of Ariana Jahangir, Head Vet Sarah's friends little girl who passed away last year from dilated cardiomyopathy.

Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions.

CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young. By supporting CRY we will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions.

Our Head Vet Sarah Ramsey is doing a challenge a month this year to raise money for CRY. She has just completed her first one at the weekend running a 15km trail race with her dog!
